Hendricks House

Meeting Minutes
Present: C. Skillings, L. Hill, M. Lupienski
Absent: L. Hill, I. Nystrom
Mr. Skillings called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Old Business:
Mr. Skillings reported that repair work to the back roof that happened this past August began right after Christmas. The DPW requested that the firm doing the restoration and repairs might want to sue the bay of the barn to store their ladders. Mr. Skillings cleaned the bay of the barn so that there would be adequate space for the ladders. It also appears that the slate on the roof will be repaired soon, as there is a pile of slate on the back porch.
New Business:
Mr. Skillings reported that he had received a letter from the Massachusetts Historical Commission regarding the application for the construction of a Community Residence (group home) at 422 Malden Street. Mr. Skillings reported that this is a newly constructed house on part of the old Horstman Farm on Malden Street. The property was just pasture land and there is no known historical or archaeological resources on the site.
Mr. Skillings also reported the receipt of a letter, dated January 4, 2007, from C & C Consulting Engineers, LLC of Boston. They are planning the work for the replacement of the bridge that crosses the Quinnapoxet River at Harris and River Streets. Mr. Skillings reported that there is no historical interest in the bridge. He did express concern about the near-by foundation ruins of the Cananda Mills. The ruins are within fifty feet of the existing bridge. Mr. Skillings suggested the draft of a letter to be sent to C & C Consulting Engineers, LLC. After some discussion regarding the bridge and the mill site, the Commission approved the draft of the letter, and instructed Mr. Skillings to send the letter along with pictures of the area for reference.
Mr. Skillings also updated the Commission members as to the information he has regarding the proposed Walgreen's building to be build next door to Hendricks House. The Commission, after some discussion, instructed Mr. Skillings to send a letter to the Town Manager expressing concern that the architecture of the proposed building might take into consideration the architecture of the neighborhood. Mr. Skillings suggested a draft that the Commission approved.
The next meeting will consider the proposals of the developing Master Plan, especially in regard to historic preservation.
Meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Michael Lupienski, acting secretary
